Social Responsibility

Teaching our students how they can truly make a difference in their community and the world is integral to the JDS learning experience

It is a thread that is woven from our Early Childhood classrooms through 8th Grade. Below is a small sampling of opportunities our students participated in to make the world a better place.

Food Bank

While finding ways to make a difference in the world is often rooted in classroom units of study, the door is also open to student-initiated projects. Such was the case with learners in the Blue Village (3rd & 4th) and the JFS (Jewish Family Service) Food Bank. Students took a virtual tour of the facility, learned about their programs, and then dove into action after learning about a high need for pet food. They asked for pet food donations in the school community, made bracelets to sell, and hosted a lemonade stand. Their efforts raised over $300 which was used to purchase pet supplies for the food bank.

Regional Animal Services of King County

Yellow Villagers (1st & 2nd) collected tzedakah on Shabbat each week to help a cause near and dear to them. While studying the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it became apparent that their biggest passions were for the lives of animals. Together they chose to donate to the Regional Animal Services of King County, an organization whose mission statement aligns with our community values of compassion, collaboration, and commitment.

Community Service

Other community service experiences have included picking up trash on and near campus, hosting a food drive for families in need, visiting with seniors at  Kline Galland Home, and sorting food at area food banks.

At JDS, social responsibility is built into our daily lives and lived out through our values. Giving back to our community and beyond are foundational to the everyday experiences here at JDS.
