After-Care Preschool Teacher

Reports to: Head of School   FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt 

When Needed: ASAP FTE: Part-Time  

Hourly Wage: $23 to $28, depending on experience

The Jewish Day School is seeking a talented, engaging and compassionate Preschool  After-Care Teacher to help us advance our mission to provide an exceptional education that empowers children to be confident, wise, and compassionate upstanders who are committed to life-long learning and community engagement. We are looking for someone who can work effectively independently as well as part of a team. For part-time positions (25 hours per week), JDS provides sick leave, Workers’ Comp, and Unemployment Benefits. 

Job Summary: 

From 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Specific Responsibilities:   

  • Selects developmentally appropriate materials for play-based learning activities  
  • Supervises students 
  • Uses developmentally appropriate classroom strategies consistent with the lead teacher  
  • Prepares and serves school-provided snacks adhering to nutritional, DEL, & handler guidelines  
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment in the classroom, indoor/outdoor play areas, and Early Childhood kitchen 
  • Participates in school provided and DEL required professional development
  • Orders items for program needs  
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents 
  • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

 Required Education & Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred 
  • 2 years or more of childcare experience, including camps, babysitting, or Sunday school 

 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with all school constituencies 
  • Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor 
  • Ability to keep information in the strictest of confidence 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity 
  • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment, using Office; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology 
  • Ability to stand multiple hours of the day 
  • Ability to sit and keyboard 
  • Ability to talk on the phone 
  • Ability to lift up to forty pounds 
  • Ability to travel locally 
  • Ability to work outside in any weather
