Note from Meghan

Welcome back and happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a restful and relaxing break. I was able to enjoy time with family, accomplish some long overdue tasks in the house, and attempt to catch up on some sleep.

The new year has always been a special time in my family. It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since I went into labor with my oldest daughter on a frigid New Year’s Day in 2013. She chose to enter the world the next day, on January 2. From that day forward, the beginning of each year has been full of celebration and wonder for my family. How does your family mark the beginning of the new year?

At JDS, teachers use the turn of the new calendar year to review and reflect on each student’s progress in achieving their goals. At the end of this month, we share about this progress in first semester progress reports. This is a great time for you to ask your child about their hopes and dreams for this school year and hear how they are accomplishing those things.

As for my own goals for JDS, I feel that I am on track to achieve them. The fantastic work of our new Assistant Head of School, Erin Dickerson Glover, has made this even more possible at JDS. She has hit the ground running and has been a careful steward of our ongoing programmatic initiatives and classroom communities. None of my hopes and dreams for JDS could be accomplished without the tireless work of our entire faculty and staff, the enthusiastic engagement of our students, and the passionate support of our families.

Here’s to a happy new year full of hopes and dreams that are fulfilled!

With Gratitude,

Meghan
